Polk County Police used surveillance video to prove a man being brought in for a warrant tried to toss away crack cocaine before being booked into the jail on Tuesday, according to reports.
Officers arrested Demetrius Dewayne Diamond, 48, of a Cedartown address, was found by officers on Tuesday around 9:15 a.m. while on patrol in the city limits. He was known to have warrants, so police pulled over and took him into custody.
He was only facing a failure to appear warrant at this point, but Diamond also was hiding drugs on his person at the time of his arrest which he tried to toss into a drain at the sally port of the Polk County Jail.
Instead, the arresting officer caught the action and later proved he had tried to dispose of something with the toss clearly caught on surveillance video played back for the officer after Diamond was taken inside the jail.
The officer went further, digging out the alleged crack cocaine out of the drain and testing it with a field kit that came back positive for the drug.
Diamond’s actions ultimately ended with additional felony charges including two counts of manufacture/sale/possess etc. a controlled, counterfeit substance or marijuana near park or housing project, tampering with evidence, crossing state/county guard line with weapons, intoxicants or drugs without consent and a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant.
He was denied bond and remained in jail as of this posting.
