A suspicion that a man took items from Dollar General before going into the bathroom was confirmed by video was also found with drugs, according to Polk County Police reports.

PCPD arrested Caleb Bingham, 23, of an Asheville, North Carolina address on December 30, 2023 at the Dollar General. He was booked on counts of theft by shoplifting and drug possession after officers caught up with him at the Dollar General on Highway 278 and Lindsey Chapel Road in Cedartown.

The reports stated that Bingham was suspected of shoplifting by an employee at the store. He had come in and looked to be shopping and even asked to charge his phone, but when he went to the bathroom with bulges in his coat and took a Slim Jim off the shelf, the employee became suspicious that he might be stealing something.

Checks of video surveillance cameras were reviewed and police clearly saw Bingham take the snack into the bathroom and not return with it.

Bingham told police he took the snack because he was hungry.

The North Carolina man was taken into custody. Police found a fixed blade knife, and metallic pipes in his pockets. Once at the jail and his belongings were further searched, a bag of suspected methamphetamine was found by deputies at the Polk County Sheriffs Office.

Bingham remained in jail on felonies for possession of methamphetamine and giving inmates liquor, drugs, weapons, etc., without consent of warden, as well as misdemeanors for theft by shoplifting and possession and use of drug-related objects.

His bond was set at $6,000.
