A Rome man remains in custody after getting into a late night chase on Sunday with Cedartown Police that ended “halfway to Rockmart” before he was stopped and attempted to flee on foot, according to Cedartown Police officials.

Trayron Marques Bexley, 29, of a Rome address, faces multiple charges after a weekend chase ended with him in custody and drugs seized from his vehicle.

Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome reported that his officers late Sunday night were involved with a chase with Bexley after he refused to pull over for a traffic stop on South Main Street within the city limits.

A chase ensued, and Bexley made it down Antioch Road for several miles while officers gave chase, and stop sticks were deployed to stop his vehicle.

Newsome said one officer was able to keep up with Bexley after he fled from the vehicle on foot and took him into custody.

After being arrested, Bexley’s vehicle was searched and drugs were found within.

Bexley remained in the Polk County Jail on multiple charges following the Sunday night chase.

Those include felonies for interference with government property, fleeing or attemping to elude a police officer, trafficking in cocaine, illegal drugs, marijuana or methamphetamine, and aggravated assault on a police officer. Misdemeanor charges included failure to yield after stopping at stop sign, failure to obey traffic control device, failure to yield when entering roadway, two counts of improper use of center turn lane, reckless driving and speeding in excess of maximum limits.

Bexley remained in the Polk County Jail without bond set.
