REPORT: Tallapoosa man caught speeding on Vinson Mountain Road going nearly 40 over limit

Chadric Alan Pennington

A Tallapoosa man was jailed over the weekend after he was caught early Sunday morning speeding down Vinson Mountain Road at nearly 40 mph over the limit by Polk County Police, according to reports.

Chadric Alan Pennington, 20, of a Tallapoosa address, was charged with misdemeanors of speeding in excess of maximum limits and reckless driving after being stopped at Vinson Mountain Road and Atlanta Highway. Police sitting at Vinson Mountain Road and Bramlett Road clocked Pennington going 84 mph in a 45 mph zone on the curvy mountain road.

Police did report that they believed they smelled marijuana coming from inside the car and saw a beer bottle on the floorboard, but Pennington was able to pass DUI field tests without issue.

Police did pull the other two occupants from the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta and searched the car, finding a pipe and vape pen cartridge. Both were taken by police and ultimately thrown away.

One of the other occupants ultimately drove the car away.

Polk County Polce took Pennington into custody without any incident.

He was released later on Sunday on a $1,960 bond on the misdemeanor charges.
