REPORT: Traffic stop for no insurance yields drugs on driver, passenger

A Cedartown man and woman were jailed early Saturday morning on drug charges after a traffic stop for no insurance yielded pills on the driver’s side, and methamphetamine on the passenger side per Polk County Police reports.

Officers arrested Regina Mae Hurley, 59, and Keith Pyle, 57, both of Cedartown area addresses, on multiple charges each after they were stopped by officers inside of a Dodge Ram early Saturday morning, June 22.

Police stopped the truck after the officer noticed the Dodge on patrol parked at Cowboys, and stopped it when it was driving near Sardis Road on Highway 278.

Per the report, officers asked Pyle behind the wheel if he had proof of insurance, but he claimed he didn’t have his card on him. Police looked in state databases again and found that the truck had no insurance since late March, per the report.

The officer got Pyle, Hurley and another passenger out of the vehicle after he informed them that PCPD was impounding the pickup due to the lack of insurance coverage. While searching inside to ensure there was an inventory of what was inside before it was towed, officers found pills later found to be hydrocodone. One of the tablets was found in the driver’s seat.

After the pills were found, officers searched Hurley and found that she had two glass pipes and methamphetamine inside of a T-Mobile phone box in her purse.

Police took both into custody and onward to the Polk County Jail without further incident.

Hurley remained in custody on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor charge of possession and use of drug related objects. Her bond was not set as of this posting.

Pyle was charged with a felony for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor drugs not in original container. He also remained in custody as of this posting without bond set at the Polk County Jail.
