Report: Two jailed after police stop for failing to maintain lane, officers find drugs and debit cards for multiple people

Polk County Police put a pair in jail over the weekend that were stopped near the intersection of Akes Station Road and Pine Bower Road after the vehicle was spotted failing to maintain its lane, and ultimately officers found drugs, paraphernalia and multiple debit cards in a purse belonging to several people.

Officers arrested Gordon Ray Allmon, 24, of 300 Charlton St., Rome, and Tia N Edwards, 24, of 225 Cason Road, Cedartown, were both booked into the Polk County Jail early Saturday morning, April 30, 2022, on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after being stopped by officers on patrol, who spotted the maroon Dodge Durango on Akes Station Road failing to maintain its lane.

Reports stated that when officers approached the vehicle, they found Allmon behind the wheel with his pants unzipped, and got his and Edwards’ information.

After running his name through state and national crime databases, police found he had a warrant out for his arrest for a probation violation involving a weapon, and they returned to the Durango and got him out and into handcuffs.

While police were providing Allmon with more information about the warrant and before Edwards – owner of the vehicle – was taken into custody, police reported that they found a digital scale with suspected methamphetamine residue on the ground near where the pair were being held by officers outside of the car, and then a pouch containing suspected marijuana that had been around Allmon’s neck.

A search of the vehicle and subsequently of Edwards’ purse found multiple debit cards with other people’s names on them. Edwards explained that friends had left the cards in her purse by mistake, and she was going to return them. Police also found evidence of illicit medication use, and a part of a marijuana grinder with residue on it.

Allmon and Edwards were both taken into custody and transported to jail without further incident.

Allmon remained in jail without bond set on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and tampering with evidence along with misdemeanor charges of tag lights required, failure to maintain lane, and another tampering with evidence charge.

Edwards was also being held without bail set on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and tampering with evidence and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana, abandonment of dangerous drugs, and tampering with evidence.
