Report: Two jailed after traffic stop ends with crash into tree

Suspect has been in previous chases with police, per report

Gaston Derrell Diamond

A Cedartown man and a Rockmart woman were both taken into custody late on Wednesday night and at least one of them remained behind bars heading into the final days of 2022.

On December 28, Polk County Police arrested Gaston Derrell Diamond, 35, of a Noyes Street address in Cedartown, and Andria Frazier, 37, of a Main Line Road address in Rockmart, after the pair were followed by police to a Church Street address in Rockmart and ultimately crashed the car into a tree while trying to flee a traffic stop.

Polk County Police reported that Diamond and Frazier were spotted by an officer on patrol leaving Frazier’s Main Line Road address in her 2016 silver Toyota Camry, which the report noted was previously used by Diamond in two other pursuits.

The reporting officer noted spotting Diamond behind the wheel, and began to follow as they left Main Line Road, turned onto Clarkwood, and then onward to Highway 278 before turning onto Elm Street. The officer noted at least three different traffic citations during the drive, but waited for backup to help out before trying to pull the pair over.

Once on West Church Street, police began the traffic stop and the Camry immediately turned into a driveway, and Diamond was reported to have bailed out of the moving car and began to run. The car stopped when it struck a tree.

Diamond went around two houses while additional officers pursued him on foot and ultimately he was tackled to the ground and placed under arrest.

Diamond remained in the Polk County Jail as of this posting without bond set on multiple charges, which included: two counts of driving while license suspended or revoked, two counts obstruction of law enforcement officers, failure to stop at stop/yield sign, failure to use signal, driving on wrong side of roadway, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, too fast for conditions, improper parking, Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Possession of a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance with intent, Possession of Tools for the Commission of a Crime, Possession of Cocaine, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police, and a probation violation charge. Most of those charges are from previous warrants. The only charges stemming from the incident included obstruction and driving while license suspended or revoked.

Warrants were being sought against Frazier for aiding or permitting another to escape lawful justice and allowing unlicensed person to drive.

Police explained her charges came after she had been questioned about Diamond’s whereabouts while trying to serve warrants for his arrest on Monday, December 26. He had already used her car during an incident on December 26 to flee from officers in her car.

She told officers she didn’t know where he was. She was warned if she was found allowing him to drive her car, she would be charged with aiding escape.
