REPORT: Two jailed following traffic stop after meth found in lock box

A pair from Alabama were found to have methamphetamine in a truck they were traveling in during an early morning traffic stop by Polk County Police on Sunday, and both remained in custody as the week begins.

Erik J. Earwood, 43, and Marie Kay Weeks, 43, both of Piedmont, Alabama addresses, were taken into custody by Polk County Police early Sunday morning, December 10, following a traffic stop at Wimberly Hill Road and Highway 278.

Polk County Police reported that the pair were pulled over in a damaged pickup truck and that once stopped the officer immediately smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Backup arrived and police undertook a search and ultimately found “multiple lighters used to heat meth up” along with other paraphernalia, but it was a lock box found in the truck that got the pair booked.

Earwood feigned ignorance about the lock box’s combination and police busted it open to find “multiple baggies of (a) crystal-like substance” believed to be methamphetamine.

During the arrest after the search, Weeks attempted to struggle with officers before being cuffed.

Both were ultimately taken onward to the Polk County Jail for booking.

Earwood remained in custody on a $10,500 bond as of this posting on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and a misdemeanor for failure to maintain lane.

Weeks was charged also for felonies for possession of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, along with misdemeanors for a seat belt violation and obstructing law enforcement officers. Her bond was set at $11,000. She remained in custody as of this posting as well.
