REPORT: Two jailed in traffic stop, both charged with meth found on seat

Justin Brown
Matthew Ryan Nixon

A Rockmart and Aragon man were both booked into custody following a late Monday night traffic stop on Elm Street ended with the discovery of drugs by Polk County Police, according to reports.

Officers arrested Justin Brown, 34, of a Rockmart address, and Matthew Ryan Nixon, 32, of an Aragon address, after the pair were stopped in a Nissan Titan for a defective brake light.

Per the report, when officers approached Nixon behind the wheel, he admitted when asked for his license that he didn’t have one. Police discovered his license was suspended in 2017, and they took him into custody without incident.

When officers then got the passenger’s information, they found he had a warrant out of Dalton but he was about to be released since there was no order to hold him. That was until officers – after a K9 dog walked around the car and didn’t immediately hit on the car – a bag of methamphetamine under the front passenger’s seat.

Police had the right to search since Nixon had a fourth amendment waiver thanks to his felony probation charges.

Nixon and Brown were both charged for felony methamphetamine possession. Nixon also faces a driving charge for the suspended license and and the defective brake signal.

Both remained in custody as of this posting, but bond was set for Brown and Nixon. Nixon as of this posting had a $5,000 bond.

Nixon’s bond was set at $7,500 on a trio of charges.
