REPORT: Two jailed on domestic violence charges after argument turns physical

A couple who got into an argument that turned physical both went to jail on charges for assaulting each other, according to Polk County Police reports.

Marilupe Lopez-Lopez, 20, and Zachary Matthew Stephens, 21, both of an Aragon address, were charged by officers after police separated the two and spoke to the couple on Saturday morning following the altercation.

Per the report, the pair got into an argument that turned physical when Lopez-Lopez was alleged to have hit Stephens several times, and then Stephens held her down and was alleged to have choked her during the incident.

Lopez-Lopez ended up kicking Stephens, who fell off the bed and nearly landed on a child.

The pair’s altercation happened in front of a witness – who later refused to provide a statement – and a three month old infant.

Both were taken into custody after police spoke to everyone involved and they were taken to the Polk County Jail without incident.

Lopez-Lopez remained in custody on misdemeanor charges of battery under the family violence act and cruelty to children in the third degree. Bond had not yet been set on the charges as of this posting

Stephens was also still in custody without bond set on a felony charge of aggravated assault, along with misdemeanor charges including two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree and battery.
