A Dallas and Rockmart man were both arrested when found with marijuana in the car during a traffic stop this past…
One of those two included a former Rockmart sports standout.
Elijah Deandre Mathis, 19, of a Dallas address, and Jukeyvious Dejuan Boozer, 20, of a Cartersville address, were jailed on Friday night, January 28 after being pulled over when officers noted while processing the tag of 2010 Honda Accord that Mathis was driving with a suspended license for failure to appear on a previous charge a few months back in November 2021.
Police immediately smelled marijuana in the car during the stop and asked Mathis to step out of the vehicle. Boozer followed out of the car and was placed in cuffs as well when a second officer arrived on scene and a probable cause search was undertaken.
Mathis admitted and said “a lot” to officers when asked if marijuana was in the car, per the report. Police found multiple bags in the car, including some commercialized product out of California with a “Jokes Up!” label, another with “Animal Mints” and in the glove compartment where Boozer had been sitting, police found three more bags that totaled out to several ounces afterward.
Boozer was also found in possession of a glass jar with roaches in his pocket.
Police later weighed out the drugs altogether and it came to 3.835 ounces. Officers took the pair to jail, released their car to be towed and collected the marijuana as evidence.
Later at the jail, Mathis told officers he got the marijuana from the Kennesaw area, but had nothing further to say about local dealers.
Police reported that Boozer refused to speak at all.
This was reportedly the second arrest for the former Rockmart High sports standout, who notably played on the football and basketball squads for the Jackets before he graduated with the Class of 2020. He dressed in four games for East Central Community College during the 2020-21 season.
Boozer remained in the Polk County Jail on a $9,500 bond on felony charges of possession of marijuana and possession with intent, along with misdemeanor charges of possession and use of drug-related objects. Mathis faced the same charges including a driving while license suspended or revoked charge and remained in jail on a $10,000 bond.
