REPORT: Two jailed on multiple charges in traffic stop for weaving

A late evening traffic stop in Cedartown saw two people jailed on multiple drug charges after weaving on the roadway on North Main Street got the pair pulled over on Wednesday, according to Polk County Police reports.

Steven Kane Crider, 22, of 77 Frances Drive, Cedartown, and Carissa Leigh Harrell, 19, of the same address, were both taken into custody and face felony and misdemeanor charges after they were pulled over at the Chevron at the intersection of North Main Street and East Avenue at 9:50 p.m.

Per the report, the pair were first spotted by Polk County Police leaving the Crown Inn just minutes after arriving, and followed and watched the 2006 Ford 500 sedan weave around the roadway all the way to Queen Street, when police finally decided to pull the vehicle over and see what was wrong.

Officers found Crider behind the wheel and Harrell as a passenger, and after speaking with both the reporting officer believed he smelled marijuana in the car.

He called for backup from Cedartown Police, got further information about Crider’s status on a fourth amendment waiver, and got him out of the car.

A search of her person found a bag of what was believed to be methamphetamine, and telling officers he “had no idea how it got there” he was taken into custody.

Additional officers then arrived on scene, and a search of the car and Harrell was undertaken as well.

Police ultimately found a digital scale, several tablets of Alprazolam and Xanax, more than 21 grams of marijuana, another container with an unknown powder inside, and equipment for vacuum sealing bags.

Officers took the pair onward to the Polk County Jail for booking, and the vehicle was towed away to the PCPD impound.

Crider remained in jail without bond set on felony charges of two counts of possession of methamphetamine, two counts of possession of tools for the commission of a crime, two counts of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, and felony possession of marijuana. He is also facing misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana, possession and use of drug-related objects, and drugs not in original container.

Harrell was booked into the jail and remained there without bond as well, facing felony charges including five counts of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of tools for commission of a crime. She faces misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana, two counts of possession and use of drug-related objects, and five counts of drugs not in original container.
