REPORT: Woman charged after drunken struggle with officers

Karen Ivette Segura

A woman was charged with several misdemeanors and a felony after a drunken incident with officers ended with her nearly getting tased and being taken to jail according to reports.

Karen Ivette Segura, 29, of a Cedartown address, was taken into custody by Rockmart Police on Sunday, September 24 on several charges after she was reported to be drunk and disorderly at a Goodyear Avenue address.

Police found Segura inside a relative’s vehicle, and police explained they’d been called out due to a fight complaint to 911, and that Segura was “extremely intoxicated” during the incident.

When Rockmart Police found Segura inside the car, they noted injuries to her fingers, knee and to her forehead. They attempted to talk to her, but she cursed at officers and refused to get out of the car, but when she refused and police tried to remove her while family members surrounded an officer, she kicked the officer in the stomach.

The officer had to pull his taser and threatened to use it on Segura, who finally got out of the vehicle on her own and was taken into custody.

A witness who watched what happened told police that Segura had been “beating on vehicles, had a pole in her hand and was yelling and being irate” before family found her and picked her up before police found her in the vehicle after they had left from a Piedmont Avenue convenience store.

The reporting officer also noted during the ride to jail the following in the report:

“During the ride, Segura made indirect threats as she stated “When I get out, I will find you. I will find out your name.” Segura then admitted to kicking me and stated it was an accident because she thought I was a stranger.”

Segura was charged with a felony for obstruction of law enforcement officers, and misdemeanors of obstruction, public drunkenness and simple battery against police officer/le dog/corrections or detention officer.

She was released following her Sunday arrest on Monday on a $4,500 bond.
