Report: Woman found with a bucket of stolen tools by officers

Summer Nicole Couzzort

A woman who was spotted by police while they were investigating a vehicle in the South Main Street area was arrested for theft after further investigation found the bucket of tools she carried were stolen, according to Polk County Police reports.

Summer Nicole Couzzort, 20, of 142 W. Ellawood Ave., Cedartown, was taken into custody by police around 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday after she was spotted in South Main Street when officers were out checking on a silver passenger vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway.

Polk County Police reported that she was carrying a bucket of tools and was heading in the direction of Lively’s BBQ. The two men in the car told officers they were there to pick Couzzort up after she requested a ride. They consented to a search of the vehicle and were found to be doing nothing wrong.

Couzzort denied this story and instead told officers a tale of how she was picking up tools from her grandfather’s house to use in roof repair and she didn’t know the pair in the passenger vehicle.

When police further investigated, they found that a man’s work van and his back shed had been entered, and the tools valued at $400 were taken after he was woken up and brought out to the scene.

They also noted that Couzzort was wearing a headlamp at the time of the reported theft and her subsequent stop by police.

Police arrested Couzzort and she was booked into the Polk County Jail without bond set as of this report on felony charges of second-degree burglary, entering automobile or other motor vehicle with intent to commit theft or felony, and misdemeanor charges for possession of tools for the commission of a crime, obstructing law enforcement officers and theft by taking.
