A traffic stop for failing to maintain the lane in the Morgan Valley Road area ended with the arrest of the passenger on warrants and drug possession, according to the Polk County Police.

Heather Ruth Swift, 36, of 451 E. Elm St., Rockmart, was taken into custody following a traffic stop when she was found with drugs and a marijuana pipe after a search was conducted when officers smelled the odor of the drug in the vehicle.

Polk County Police reported pulling over a pair around 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Sept. 8, when they were on patrol on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Rockmart heading toward Morgan Valley Road.

The reporting officer knew the driver from previous run-ins with the law, and found a woman asleep in the passenger seat.

Officers believed they smelled marijuana in the car and asked both the driver and Swift to step out of the vehicle, and when they conducted the search found several items on Swift’s side of the car.

The driver told police he didn’t know the woman and was giving her a ride, and was ultimately released with a warning for failure to maintain a lane.

Police reported that among the drugs they found included suspected THC wax inside of a glass pipe, Gabapentin, Clonazepam, and a set of digital scales with marijuana residue that weren’t working under the passenger’s seat.

Police reports indicated that Swift when woken gave officers a false name, and when admitting to her real name also turned over the glass pipe she had on her person. Officers found the other drugs in her purse during the search of the car before she was taken into custody.

Additionally, Swift had a warrant for her arrest as well.

Swift was booked on felony charges of three counts of probation violation, false imprisonment, party to a crime, aggravated assault, and possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance. Misdemeanor charges included possession of marijuana less than an ounce, tampering with evidence, and giving false name, address, or birthdate to law enforcement officer.

She remained in the Polk County Jail as of this posting with her bail denied.
