An investigation that began earlier this year when a man noticed more than $100,000 missing from his retirement funds ended with a woman booked into the Polk County Jail on charges.
Christy Dawn Patterson, 47, of a Buchanan address, was booked into the Polk County Jail on Saturday, June 1, on multiple felony charges after she was accused of being involved in the theft of somewhere between $130,000 and $140,000 from a Cedartown-area man from his retirement account.
The victim told police in a February theft report that he had only ever used the phone to contact the company handling his retirement accounts, and they informed him that an electronic transfer had been completed in sometime prior to April 2023.
An investigation ensued, and Patterson was charged with felonies for identity theft fraud when using/possessing identifying info concerning a person, theft by deception, theft by taking, willfully fail to report abuse of disabled adult/elder person per pursuant to 30-5-4, and elder abuse-exploit/inflict pain to/deprive essential services to disabled person, elder person or resident.
Patterson was released on a $20,000 bond over the weekend on the charges.
