REPORT: Woman needing medical help at Dollar General found with drugs

Amanda Shannon Byrd

A woman who was parked at Dollar General just down the road from the Polk County Police Department and other public safety agencies was found unresponsive in her car, alongside several kinds of drugs according to reports.

PCPD charged Amanda Shannon Byrd, 40, of a Danville, Georgia address on February 3 when a call for help went out around noon after she was believed to be unresponsive inside of her BMW X5 at the Dollar General on Rockmart Highway at the intersection with Lindsey Chapel Road.

When other officers arrived they found her to be OK and in possession of a controlled substance.

The report stated that EMS checked out Byrd and cleared her health at the Dollar General. She told police that she wasn’t overdosing, but had an unrelated health problem not connected to the loaded syringe, glass smoking pipe, or “grayish powdery substance” that was found in her possession.

Police took her into custody but allowed her to be cuffed in the front due to a wrist injury.

A miniature Yorkie that was with Byrd in the vehicle at the time of her arrest was turned over to Animal Control, and her vehicle was towed from the Dollar General.

She remained in custody as of this posting on a $6,000 bond for the felony charge of possession of methamphetamine.
