A Carrollton woman caught speeding on Highway 278 was ultimately arrested and charged with drug and gun possession, according to reports.
Keisha Diane Borders, 42, of a Carrollton address in one report and a Dallas address in another, was taken into custody around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, after a traffic stop for going 82 in a 65 at the intersection of Springdale Road and Highway 278 in the Rockmart area.
During the stop, Polk County Police found that she had a warrant for her arrest from the Dallas Police Department in Paulding County.
Police believe due to the smell of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle that Borders might be under the influence, and was run through a field sobriety test. After the test, she was cuffed again and charged with DUI and the warrant.
Due to the smell police reported initially, they searched her vehicle before it was set to be towed and found a Taurus 9mm handgun, a bag of marijuana and a chocolate bar containing psilocybin mushrooms.
Ultimately Borders was booked into the Polk County Jail where she remained on felony charges of possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, and misdemeanors for speeding in excess of maximum limits and DUI – less safe – drugs.
Borders remained in custody on a $6,500 bond as of this posting.
