REPORT: Woman stopped for suspended license found with meth by Rockmart PD

Paula Louise Matthews

A Rockmart woman remains in jail on felony and misdemeanor charges after she was stopped for a suspended license on Friday, and ultimately was found in possession for methamphetamine, per reports.

Rockmart Police arrested Paula Louise Matthews, 45, of 292 Barber Road, Rockmart, was jailed on Friday, August 12, around 10 p.m. after a tag reader being used by an officer caught her tag number on the camera, and it came back that the driver had an active warrant for their arrest.

Matthews was stopped at the intersection of Hwy. 278 and Business 6, and police got her license and ran it one more time through the state and national crime database and found an active warrant for a failure to appear to court. The warrant from February was ruled to be active, and while she being detained without cuffs police asked if they could search the car.

She gave permission, and officers ultimately located a bag around the driver’s seat that included a glass pipe and two bags of suspected methamphetamine.

Police asked after reading her rights about the drugs, and she told officers the drugs weren’t hers but another family member’s.

She was determined to be sober while driving after going through a sobriety test. Matthews was taken to the Polk County Jail without incident.

Matthews remains in custody on a $7,000 bond as of this posting on misdemeanor charges of driving on a suspended license and the warrant for her arrest, along with the felony for methamphetamine possession.
