The Polk County Coroner’s Office confirmed that a woman who was riding a bicycle on Sunday night outside of Cedartown died from injuries sustained after being struck, according to officials.

Georgia State Patrol has been sought for more information about the death of 63-year-old Debbie Mitchell Shaw after she was struck around 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2024 on Highway 27 South near the intersection with Knight Road.

Cedartown Police responded with other local emergency personnel before the investigation of the incident was turned over to Georgia State Patrol.

No immediate charges are pending following the tragic incident, per local officials.

The coroner’s office reported that they learned about her passing after the incident occurred when she died while being treated in the hospital for her injuries on Monday, October 28.
