The annual Rivers Alive cleanup provided an opportunity for people to get outdoors and help clean up a vital portion of the community in Euharlee Creek in Rockmart, along with taking care of another job that will definitely be noticed be people utilizing the Silver Comet Trail.
Previously a home to graffiti, the Church Street bridge footings got a much-needed coat of paint during the event on Saturday morning, that also provided breakfast and lunch courtesy of the Cedartown Junior Service League for volunteers helping out Keep Polk Beautiful.
Along with breakfast and lunch, volunteers who took part and came early were also given free limited edition face coverings bearing the Rivers Alive logo and theme.
KPB Executive Director Randy Cook said the organization gathered a group to pick up a number of bags of trash in and around Euharlee Creek for the annual Rivers Alive event. The main focus around Seaborn Jones Park and the Silver Comet Trail area has the greatest impact immediately around the downtown portion of Euharlee Creek, which is well-trafficked by locals and out of town guests alike.
Cook said volunteers didn’t have an easy time of the painting job, encountering bees while at work on removing the graffiti from the bridge but were able to complete it by midday.
Stay tuned for more on that event coming up.
Meanwhile, the City of Rockmart is promoting a volunteer opportunity for another cleaning day next Saturday, October 10.
