Get out the gloves and the work shoes, its time to get out in nature and help clean up some of the mess everyone has made in local waterways.
The 2020 Rivers Alive Cleanup is coming up on October 3, and Keep Polk Beautiful needs all the volunteer support they can muster to help clean out various areas around Rockmart in the annual event, with a focus on Euharlee Creek in the area immediately surrounding Seaborn Jones Park but other sites along the Silver Comet Trail and around the City of Rockmart are also being cleaned up as well.
The event begins with registration at 8 a.m., and then volunteers will break up into groups appropriately sized for COVID-19 precautions and guidelines. Anyone sick is asked to stay home and help avoid further spreading the virus.
Volunteers will also have an opportunity to receive one of 120 Rivers Alive buffs, and colors may vary. Biscuits in the morning are being provided by Bojangle’s, and Lunch is being prepared by the Cedartown Junior Service League.
Water and supplies are also being offered up by the Cook Farm.
Those interested in participating can contact Randy Cook, Executive Director of Keep Polk Beautiful at 678-246-1083 or by email at rcook@cedartowngeorgia.gov. Jeri Purdy is also involved in coordinating efforts and she can be reached at 678-883-9024 or by email at trailhead@rockmart-ga.gov.
