Rockmart employees, police officers honored during city council meeting

Mayor Sherman Ross and the Rockmart City Council took time out at the start of their September meeting on Tuesday to honor employees for their longevity with the city and the work they do on a daily basis, and two police officers who put forth extra effort in their service for the public good.

First up for honors on the night were two waste treatment employees for their years of service on the job. Michael Edwards, who spent 30 years working for the city and A. J. Brumbelow, who has spent the past five years in service.

Also honored during the evening’s session were two police officers for their efforts in the field. Frank Golden was recognized for getting drunk drivers off the roadway by both the city and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Here’s Chief Randy Turner with more:

Turner also had a Lifesaving award for Officer Daniel Jones, who kept up CPR on a man for more than five minutes after he suffered cardiac arrest, and after additional efforts by medical personnel the patient Jones saved eventually walked out of the hospital two days later.

Council members also praised their employees in public safety after also approving pay raises during the council session for firefighters and police officers.
