
A Rockmart man remained in jail with no bond set after he was accused and charged with starting a fire in an abandoned mobile home, according to a release from the Polk County Police Department.
According to the release, Billy Steven Moody, 62, was taken into custody on Wednesday morning and remains in jail with no bond set on felony and misdemeanor charges.
Per the release, police were called out to the fire on Tuesday, December 15 at 5:45 p.m. to Hudson Loop Road, within Aragon but part of the Cashtown community, to the mobile home that was on fire but now contained.
Witnesses told police that they saw a man driving around in a gray Ford Focus during the day, and later saw the same car in the area at the time the fire started. Those same witnesses reported the man was seen getting out of the car, and then the fire began.
Investigators from the Polk County Police took over the case, and officers were able to track down Moody and placed him under arrest for felony arson and felony criminal damage to property charges, along with a misdemeanor for criminal trespass.
