A trio of officers with the Rockmart Police Department were honored by the Mayor and City Council as they received promotions to new positions.

Following the February promotion of Deputy Chief David Gowens, a chain of promotions were required to fill roles left empty following the changes in command after the loss of Deputy Chief Jonathan Fuller in November 2024.

Starting off the night was Jeremy Walters, promoted to Captain over the department’s administration after serving for years with the department.

New Detective Wayne Fuller was promoted to the position after several years working with the Drug Task Force, and will undertake efforts to decrease gang activity within the city limits in the years to come. Fuller replaced Gowens’ role as detective for the Rockmart PD’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Sgt. Corey Gray earned his stripes on Tuesday night and had his wife along to pin his badge on as he was promoted to Patrol Sergeant.
