Rockmart Police host checkpoint for GOHS event on Thursday night

The Rockmart Police Department was thankful for the help of local businesses and restaurants for taking part in efforts to bring other agencies in from around the area for a Governor’s Office of Highway Safety event – i.e. the checkpoints they stop to see if you are licensed, registered, insured, not drinking and don’t have drugs in the car.

The Rockmart Police posted their appreciation on behalf of the department for all who participated and helped with the event, and noted several arrests with the information from the Thursday night checkpoint.

From the Rockmart Police Facebook Page:

Your Rockmart Police Department had the opportunity to host a GOHS (Governors Office of Highway Safety) event on Thursday, November 18, 2021. These events include several law enforcement agencies in the area to include GSP (Georgia State Patrol).

The hosting agency generally will provide a venue to accommodate these participating officers; while providing a meal, training, and door prizes prior to traffic enforcement activity.

We would like to thank EL NOPAL (Rockmart) for reserving an area for all our guests.

We would like to thank our corporate neighbors for donating some amazing door prizes. These neighbors include, HOME DEPOT (Cedartown), TRACTOR SUPPLY (Cedartown), LIVE WIRE (Cedartown), WAL MART (Cedartown and Rockmart), CHIK-FIL-A (Rockmart), Pizza Hut (Rockmart) and TACO BELL/KFC (Rockmart).

Initial numbers from the enforcement event included a DUI arrest, seizure of illegal drugs, no seat belt citations, and a hands free violation citation.

More information about the GOHS and their efforts to improve safety on the highways can be found on their website: https://www.gahighwaysafety.org/
