
A Rockmart Police officer was booked into the Polk County Jail on Tuesday on charges filed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will remain on leave for the time being.
Ronald Williams, 39, of a Rockmart-area address, was released on a $7,000 bond after the GBI charged him with a felony for violation of oath of office and a misdemeanor for tampering with evidence.
He was booked into jail for a short time on Halloween before being released from the Polk County Jail.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has yet to respond to an inquiry as to why Williams was arrested or whether their investigation remains ongoing.
Rockmart Police Chief Randy Turner had no comment on the GBI’s investigation.
He did note that Williams remains on leave with pay while city administration and the city attorney reviews the matter.
