The Polk County Board of Education is back to business this evening for the September work session, set to be called to order at 6 p.m. with several items on the agenda.
Among those includes a request from Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd to address the board about the potential for putting up speed cameras in school zones around Van Wert and Youngs Grove Elementary Schools, which he brought up previously with the Polk County Commission in past months.
Dodd’s request is also being met by a request to surplus a number of technology items from two elementary schools in the district that are no longer useful to the schools, which include a number of older computers, boomboxes, VCRs, video cameras, printers, overhead projectors, a smart board, monitors, digital cameras and a laptop from each school.
Superintendent Laurie Atkins is also requesting the board take a retreat day on September 12 to allow for training, SPLOST planning and a facilities tour. The training is also up for discussion during this evening’s work session, providing a schedule of when the nine hours of training required for each board member (first year members have to take 12 hours of training a year at minimum.)
They also have an executive session, a request for personnel votes and review of upcoming meetings to cover before they adjourn for the evening.
Join the Board of Education at 612 S. College St., Cedartown at the Central Office in the meeting room.
