Second annual bell ringing campaign returns for the holiday season on Christmas Eve

Cities of Cedartown, Rockmart approve proclamations encouraging participation from local residents

  • Remix at Moore’s to host Christmas Eve event
  • Bell ringers should step outside to join in at 6 p.m. countywide
  • Sorrell encourages community to outdo last year’s inaugural Ring the Bell Day
Cedartown Commission Chair Andrew Carter presented Jannah Sorrell with a proclamation honoring Ring the Bell Day 2021 on Christmas Eve during the city’s Monday, December 13, 2021 meeting.

Christmas is fast approaching, and those who want to show their holiday spirit will have the chance on December 24 to step out on their porches and ring a bell for two minutes countywide.

Jannah Sorrell was back before the Cedartown Commission and Rockmart City Council to start the week, requesting that citizens join in the fun on Christmas Eve once again and ring bells starting at 6 p.m., coinciding with an event being held at Remix at Moore’s in downtown Cedartown.

The event began last year after Sorrell found a posting about the idea from another community and brought it to Polk County, and was a success. She told the Cedartown Commission on Monday night and the Rockmart City Council on Tuesday night that after announcing the idea, a lot of people jumped on board and participated.

“All evening that evening, Facebook was just blown up with videos from all over Polk County out ringing the bells,” Sorrell said. “When we all stepped out on Main Street, people were riding by in their cars and ringing bells, and churches joined in too.”

Sorrell told both cities that she already has support from local churches and individuals who are planning on joining in again this year.

Remix at Moore’s will also host the Glee Club again this year, and have refreshments on hand for families who want to participate in bell ringing downtown. The downtown shop will also have a variety of candy and holiday items on hand for sale as well. (You can also buy bells from Remix at Moore’s as well.)

Sorrell encourages everyone across the county to go out and get a bell and ring it for two minutes on Christmas Eve, again starting at 6 p.m. The event is free for the public to enjoy and all are welcome to attend.

The goal is to audibly show the Christmas spirit of Polk County throughout the community, and provide a bit of extra magic for Santa Claus as he makes his annual trip around the globe.

Cedartown Commissioners and Rockmart Councilmembers approved and read proclamations honoring the event, encouraging everyone to participate and naming December 24 as Ring the Bell Day 2021.
