Site work underway for new grocery-restaurant combo in Cedartown

A locally and family-owned grocery-restaurant combo is preparing to be built on a corner lot on West Avenue, joining a busy corridor in the coming months as work began after the land sat empty.

Once upon a time the Old Wayside Inn sat on the lot at 500 West Avenue, Cedartown, but many years ago the building was demolished and now it is set to gain a new life as El Riconcito Market.

City officials provided an exterior plan below for the new market-restaurant combo:

The commercially-zoned property was purchased in 2020 by the Palacios family after it was taken over by an investment company from the bank.

Ownership of the corner property that was formerly the site of the Wayside Inn has traded hands multiple times over the decades.

The 1.24 acre property’s potential new storefront will join other stores in the immediate area including a grocery store that opened in 2024 and a Dollar General almost right across the street from the corner of West Avenue and Furnace Street.

It’ll be the first building to go up with full design standards in place from the City of Cedartown’s recent updates to requirements for new businesses.

So far, the only work to be completed is preliminary drainage work.
