A teen was charged as an adult and was being booked for the shooting death of a 38-year-old Rockmart woman on Saturday afternoon, according to Rockmart Police.

Police Chief Randy Turner reported this morning that 15-year-old Ashjuan Stocks is being held on a murder charge as of this morning. Additional charges may be pending as well, Turner noted.

He said the charges came after three individuals were questioned late into Saturday night by Rockmart Police and GBI investigators who are still seeking a motive as to why the shooting took place.

As of this morning, the Polk County Coroner’s Office hadn’t yet released the name of the woman who died as a result of the single gunshot wound at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center in Rome hours after she was rushed to the hospital.

The shooting that occurred around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Hunter Street and Forrest Avenue initially saw three individuals detained for questioning. The other two individuals were released without any charges filed against them at this time.

Turner said his department and the GBI are still investigating and interviewing those who might have a connection to the shooting.
