A 16-year-old male remains in custody at the Rome Youth Detention Center on serious charges while another five escaped with a horrible scare following a Friday night shooting incident described by Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd as an attempted drive-by at an area restaurant late at night.
The teen in custody was charged with five counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of criminal damage to property, but is not being named since they are under the age of 18 and in YDC custody.
Dodd said that late Friday night, October 16, one of the teens who was a target in the shooting was getting off work from The Steak House on Baldwin Road when a car pulled up and the 16-year-old suspect hung out of a passenger window and fired several shots at five teens who were in the parking lot between 11 p.m. and midnight.
Instead, the teen hit two pickup trucks with the shots and was charged with the damage to a For F-150 and Dodge Ram in the parking lot. The building was not damaged in the shooting, Dodd said. None of the teens who were shot at were injured as well.
Dodd did not have immediate details about the arrest of the 16-year-old in custody.
