The deaths from COVID-19 in 2021 in Polk County

The number of deaths from COVID-19 in Polk County ended in 2020 with 44, and they continued to increase during 2021 as well.

Below is a list of all those who have died from the virus during 2021, along with the date that it was reported (not included in the 2020 death list, which can be found here.)

The only information provided by the state’s Department of Public Health is the age, gender and race of a victim of the virus, and whether co-morbidity factors were involved. That information is being provided here as a reference guide for those seeking to keep track of the deaths.

It is important to remember that when a person dies, they might also be a COVID-19 death because they were found to have the virus during testing conducted in an autopsy, for instance.

It is also good to remember this: The Georgia Department of Public Health doesn’t report COVID-19 deaths live, but after they are confirmed by the state before being uploaded to the database. So it could be that the death toll has gone up, but those numbers aren’t yet in the state’s reporting system.

This item will be updated regularly with new information as it becomes available, and as long as the state continues to report COVID-19 deaths. The total number of deaths as of March 25, 2021 is 33.

Update, March 25, 2021: After a while without complete data sets for COVID-19 deaths in Polk County, the state’s database has updated to include deaths from the virus on an individual basis (without names) that brings the total to 77. This data will be processed and additional information added later this week. – KtE

*One of the deaths added today was actually added on January 18, 2021. However, this data was not collected on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and was rolled into the January 19 data. – KtE

** The deaths that were reported on February 6 and Feb. 8 could be either way. This database was not updated on Saturday when the second death of the month was added, but was included in the Feb. 8 update.

For all items marked **Data not immediately available**, please note that these are deaths that have been reported by the Department of Public Health’s database, but corresponding data about those deaths are not included in the total deaths searchable on the website. As of Feb. 23, 2021, the database only includes deaths up to a 69-year-old male in Newton County, Georgia, then no additional information is available. Updates to this data will become available when the database is updated completely.

Check back on a regular basis as this list is updated throughout 2021, or until vaccinations have brought an end to the pandemic and reporting of deaths comes to a close.
