Traffic stop, searches lead to five arrests and nearly a dozen ounces of meth seized

Police were able to seize 11 1/2 ounces of methamphetamine and five people were taken to jail after a traffic stop turned up a small portion of the drugs, and a search of a camper netted the rest.

Sgt. Josh Smith and his K-9 Joep first pulled over Michael Don Kirkpatrick of a Cedartown address at 12:14 a.m. today, and when the K-9 officer got around the vehicle immediately alerted to the scent of drugs. Smith explained that Kirkpatrick was on probation, and was required to allow for a search of the vehicle that netted a half an ounce of meth, and an arrest.

Upon further questioning, police learned of where the source of the meth back to a backyard camper in the area, and within minutes were at the location and knocking on the door.

Once allowed within, police reported that Brittany Lee Clemons of a Rome address was found trying to dispose of drugs in the camper toilet, and everyone within was immediately ordered out. Police found Heather Wood of Cedartown, Sylvia Adkins of Rockmart and William Whatley of Cedartown also within and they were placed in custody until everything could be sorted out.

Officers immediately searched the camper for any additional people hiding inside, but instead turned up an additional 11 ounces of methamphetamine and less than an ounce of marijuana within.

Kirkpatrick remained in jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, trafficking in cocaine, illegal drugs, marijuana or methamphetamine, marijuana possession of less than an ounce, possession of the tools for the commission of a crime and possession and use of drug-related objects.

Clemons was jailed on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, trafficking in cocaine, illegal drugs, marijuana or methamphetamine, marijuana possession of less than an ounce, possession of the tools for the commission of a crime and possession and use of drug-related objects. She also was charged with tampering with evidence.

Whatley faced charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, trafficking in cocaine, illegal drugs, marijuana or methamphetamine, marijuana possession of less than an ounce, possession of the tools for the commission of a crime and possession and use of drug-related objects.

Wood faced charges of faced charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, trafficking in cocaine, illegal drugs, marijuana or methamphetamine, marijuana possession of less than an ounce, possession of the tools for the commission of a crime and possession and use of drug-related objects. She also was charged with dangerous drugs – sale, manufacture, deliver or possess, which is a felony.

Adkins also faced charges of charges of faced charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, trafficking in cocaine, illegal drugs, marijuana or methamphetamine, marijuana possession of less than an ounce, possession of the tools for the commission of a crime and possession and use of drug-related objects. She additionally was charged with second degree burglary, a felony.

All five were denied bond.
