A Rockmart man and a Cedartown woman were both jailed after police clocked both going over 100 mph on Highway 113 coming from Bartow County on Sunday in an alleged road rage incident, according to Polk County Police reports
Brandy Joelle Guthrie, 28, of a Cedartown address and Leland Gorrie, 22, of a Rockmart address were both pulled over and ultimately taken into custody by police on several charges.
A PCPD officer who was patrolling the area in a marked car spotted both coming down Highway 113 going at least 100 mph, including Gorrie in a pickup truck with a trailer behind it.
Additionally, Guthrie was reported to be on the phone telling 911 about Gorrie’s reckless driving, and police witnessed the truck and trailer pass other vehicles at high speed.
Police pulled the truck over near the intersection with White River Road, and Gorrie told police that he was driving that way in fear for his life, because Guthrie was alleged to have pointed a handgun at him and he was only trying to get away since he failed to call police. When asked why he hadn’t, he told officers simply that “I normally don’t call the police.”
Guthrie explained her side of the story after she was asked to return to the scene of the traffic stop. Allegedly, Guthrie and a passenger explained that Gorrie cut them off in Bartow County while towing the trailer. They denied pulling a gun, but one was found inside of a case in the vehicle.
Police did note that portion of the incident happened in Bartow County, and that if Gorrie wished to pursue charges over the incident that he would have to reach out to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.
However, both Guthrie and Gorrie ended up being charged in the incident and were taken onward to the Polk County Jail without further incident.
Guthrie was released on a $2,960 bond for misdemeanor charges of speeding in excess of maximum limits, reckless driving and aggressive driving.
Gorrie was also released on a $3,110 bond for the same charges as Guthrie: speeding in excess of maximum limits, reckless driving and aggressive driving.
