Local and state investigators are awaiting answers from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab after the body of a unidentified female was found on Morgan Valley Road early Thursday afternoon, June 6, 2024.

Both Polk County Police and the Polk County Coroner’s Office are awaiting identification and autopsy results to explain how the body ended up in a ditch off the roadway connecting Rockmart to Antioch.

Investigators were searching the area on foot found the body around 12:55 p.m. off the roadway, and called in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for additional help.

Results of identification from the crime lab is the next step to determining what happened to the woman they found on Thursday afternoon. Determining who she is will likely take several days for the Crime Lab to complete.

Officials are hoping as well the public may be able to shed some light on what might have happened to the unidentified female, or provide some help in positively identifying who she was.
