UPDATE: Four hospitalized after Friday night shooting in Rockmart area

One in custody, Police seeking warrants for three others who fled on foot following chase

A shooting Friday night saw at least four people hospitalized with injuries following a fight in the street just outside of the Rockmart city limits, and one person in custody and police seeking charges against three more.

Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd was able to provide additional information this morning on the shooting incident that took place at Fairview Road and Morgan Street on Friday night, which began with the first victim walking down Fairview Road in the area around Morgan Road on Friday night.

While he was walking down the road, Dodd reported that he was attacked by four individuals who jumped out of a Dodge Challenger traveling on Fairview Road as well. Dodd did not have a full explanation of the reason for the attack as of this moment, since those involved aren’t fully cooperating with officers.

Amid the attack against the first victim, a second vehicle with two 17-year-olds and a 41-year-old male pulled up and began fighting with the initial group.

This is when Dodd reports that at least one of the individuals in the first group pulled out a gun and shot at least 18 times in the area, striking at least the three who came to the initial victim’s aid, and the 18-year-old being attacked.

Both groups fled the scene and left the victim at the scene on Fairview Road, and EMS later transported him to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center for further treatment. The two 17-year-olds and the 41-year-old returned home, got into an other vehicle, and drove themselves to Paulding Wellstar Medical Center for treatment of their wounds.

Dodd said the initial group of four who instigated the shooting incident fled the scene in the Challenger, and were chased out of the area until being lost by Polk County Police at the intersection of Marquette Road and Highway 113.

Another officer picked up the Challenger and followed it while being chased until it made it to Holly Street in Aragon, where the group jumped out of the car and fled on foot.

Police were able to catch up with the driver, Kingston Tolbert, 21, of a Cedartown address, and took him into custody on numerous traffic charges related to the chase. Dodd said he faces additional charges related to the shooting on Friday night as well.

Dodd additionally stated that three other suspects are known to police and warrants are being drawn up for their arrest as well.

Booking information wasn’t immediately available for Tolbert as of this posting.
