The Polk County Coroner’s Office reported this afternoon that a Washington state man died as a result of a skydiving incident on Thursday.
Nicolay Grushin, 47, of a Bonney Lake, Washington, address, died as a result of the incident on Thursday. His remains are being examined at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab after being transported there following the January 11 incident.
Grushin was taking a jump from Skydive Spaceland Atlanta located on Grady Road on Thursday afternoon around 3 p.m. when the incident occurred in the area, coming down near the intersection of Mullen Road and Coaling Road.
The Federal Aviation Administration is handling the investigation with assistance from the GBI Crime Lab, per the Coroner’s office.
Officials have not yet provided any additional information at this time. In a release from the FAA, they specifically investigate the packing of the main and reserve parachutes, and the rules of flight for the pilot and aircraft when it comes to skydiving incidents that involve a fatality. That investigation does not determine the ultimate cause of Grushin’s untimely demise.
