More voters expected as commuters head home from work day
Low wait times have been accompanied by overall low figures so far for Election Day, but the count is still nearing the 3,000 mark for ballots cast in Polk County on Nov. 5 to go along with a hefty percentage participating in early voting over the previous three weeks.
Polk was up to 2,875 votes cast today as of a 4 p.m. update provided by poll workers to Elections Officials, with the highest tally in Cedartown for Election Day voting as of around an hour ago at 608. Rockmart sat at 579 votes cast, 444 in Aragon, 379 at Lake Creek, 269 at Camp Antioch and 237 votes cast at the Blooming Grove precinct.
Voters still have a little over two hours remaining to head to the polls as businesses closes (or shifts change) and commuters head home from the work day and have a chance to get to the polls.
No major wait times were currently reported by elections officials as of the 4 p.m. hour.
Already, turnout was historic in Polk for early voting, drawing in more than 50% of the total registered voters in the county with 14,924 ballots cast over the previous three weeks along with hundreds of mail-in ballots returned to the Board of Elections.
Combining today’s figures so far with those gathered during early voting, some 17,799 ballots had been cast so far as of the 4 p.m. update.
