UPDATE: Woman jailed after wreck into Hardy Realty on Wednesday, more charges pending

Maggie Marie Wheeler

Cedartown Police say more charges are pending after a woman who ran into the front windows and office space of Hardy Realty in downtown Cedartown on Wednesday was booked into the Polk County Jail after a trip to the hospital to be cleared.

Maggie Marie Wheeler, 34, of 246 Everett Drive (or 911 Jake Whorton Road, Rockmart – two addresses were listed on the Sheriff’s Office booking website – KtE) was charged with a felony for possession of a controlled substance after being looked over and released from the hospital following Wednesday afternoon’s wreck.

Per police reporting, emergency personnel arrived not long after the wreck occurred and found Wheeler unresponsive in her vehicle. After quickly removing her from the seat of the SUV, officials performed CPR and used Narcan to revive Wheeler, who responded immediately to treatment.

Police Chief Jamie Newsome reported that it is currently believed that the controlled substance led to the wreck after Wheeler behind the wheel went straight into the Hardy Realty offices off of West Avenue.

She was taken to an area hospital before being booked into the Polk County Jail on a single charge. Bond had not been set as of this morning, and police are expected to add charges following the wreck on Wednesday.

Richard Long, an agent at Hardy Realty working out of the local office, said only one employee was in the office at the time and no injuries were reported within the building.

He added that crews boarded up the windows, and beyond those repairs the only thing lost in the incident was Long’s desk.
