The Polk County Board of Education’s regular session took place in Cedartown on Tuesday evening and members and the administration took time to honor their M.E.R.I.T. Award winner for September, a member of the Van Wert Elementary School staff helping keep children safe during the COVID-19 crisis.
Kevin Wilson had a long list of praise per Assistant Superintendent Katie Thomas when she announced this month’s MERIT Award, which covered service employees for the district which included maintenance and custodial personnel for the category.
“Kevin goes above and beyond his daily duties to ensure that the school is kept immaculately clean,” Thomas said. “He’s gone above and beyond his duties during the summer…. he is the best custodian that Van Wert has ever had.”
She added that “the list goes on and on.”
Wilson received a certificate and a gift card for being named the MERIT Award winner for the month of September. He was also honored with a spotlight on the Polk School District website and social media.
The efforts of custodial staff like Wilson to keep classrooms clean during the COVID-19 crisis from day-to-day are helping ensure that students are able to continue to be able to come to campuses.
