Sunday saw interested fans come out to enjoy an afternoon event at The West Cinema that brought Jen Harper and L Warren Young to Cedartown thanks to organizing efforts put together by Linda Liles amid her campaign to retain her seat on the Polk County Commission.
It wasn’t a campaign event – The West Cinema did charge for a matinee showing of Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral and concessions as well – but it did give Liles a chance to speak out about the importance of ensuring that the historic theater restored by owner Michael Tinney in recent years remains a prominent fixture in the community for people to enjoy.
“We cannot afford to lose it, it is important,” she said.
Harper and Young made themselves available before the show to meet some of the audience members in attendance, and spoke after the movie was shown.
Not only an actress, Harper is also a doctor. She studied at Spelman College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and in The Shakespearean Tradition at The Royal National Theatre and The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. Along with her role in “A Madea Family Funeral,” she’s appeared on the series “Greenleaf” and “The Vampire Diaries,” among many other roles.
Young, also on “Greenleaf” and in “A Madea Family Funeral,” was also in the remake of Footloose in 2011 and “The Blind Side” in 2009, among many other roles as well. His career dates back to 1977, according to IMDB.
