VOTE 2025: Weekly tally brings Polk past 2,000 mark

Another week of early voting is in the books, and voters sent the ballot tally past the 2,000 mark for the March 18 election.

One more chance to vote during the weekend is coming up on Saturday at just the Cedartown precinct for the forthcoming spring election, starting at 9 a.m. at the Goodyear Civic Center at 108 Prior St.

Voters from Cedartown have so far cast 1,401 ballots, while 910 voters have stopped into the Rockmart precinct over the past two weeks of early voting. Those figures increased by 542 votes cast just ahead of the end of business on Friday, and 345 votes from Rockmart.

That brought the overall total to 2,311 ballots cast early so far.

Early voting continues following the last weekend opportunity to get to the Cedartown precinct (open to any Polk County voter) and wraps up on March 14 ahead of the Tuesday, March 18 vote.

The polls are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Voters are being asked to decide one item on the ballot countywide: adding a special mill to property taxes to pay back a $34 million bond resolution sought from the Polk School District to pay for several school building-related projects. The mill added to property taxes would remain until the money is paid back, upward of 20 years time depending on collections and valuations of property over the coming years.

The other item on the ballot for JUST CITY OF CEDARTOWN RESIDENTS is a request from the city to have redevelopment powers that include the negotiation of a TAD – or Tax Allocation District – that would entice a national grocery store chain to build in Cedartown if approved. These powers would remain for the city to negotiate further TAD deals or expand the area being proposed in the forthcoming deal – if the city gets the powers requested of voters on the ballot.

Check back for additional early voting numbers as they become available.
