The new Dollar General on West Avenue will be opening this year based on the current rate of construction – so long as the weather cooperates.

A lot on West Avenue that was cleared at the beginning of spring went from layout work to metal frame and now covered structure in the span of the past month. The latest location is a replacement store going up to take over for the South College Street location no far around the corner.

An opening date isn’t set in stone, but based on the current rate of construction it is likely to be completed by the end of the summer.

Dollar General has been expanding in Polk County for the past half dozen years as the retail chain undergoes nationwide growth offering low prices on retail and food items to customers served outside of larger cities.

The chain has 8 locations in Polk so far, with the most recent opening earlier this month on Piedmont Highway and Cornelius Road.
