Woman jailed after traffic stop ends with attempted escape, resisting officers

Heather Nicole Wills

A woman who was driving with her headlights on bright on the Highway 27 Bypass attempted to get away from officers after she was stopped at a Cason Road apartment and ultimately taken into custody after she tried to flee in her car, then into her residence from officers.

Heather Nicole Wills, 41, was booked into the Polk County Jail yesterday morning after being medically cleared for custody following the incident that happened around 12:45 a.m. on February 6, 2024.

Wills was spotted by a Cedartown Police officer on the bypass driving with her bright lights on, and the officer attempted a traffic stop. Wills eventually turned into an apartment on Cason Road and first tried to leave the stop until she was ordered back into her Chevrolet Equinox.

Per the report, officers spoke to Wills who gave her name and claimed her license wasn’t suspended, but the statewide database of drivers showed she was driving on a suspended license. The situation turned combative when Wills was reported to become “very irate” when she learned she was driving on the suspended license for a previous DUI incident and was going to be arrested.

Wills attempted to get away from the officer and began to fight, and was ultimately able to get back in her car and was able to avoid being tased when she was able to get back into the Equinox. One of the prongs went into her, but another pair went into the driver’s side door when the officer attempted to deploy it a second time.

The officer tried to pull her out of the vehicle at this point, but she “slammed the door almost getting my hands caught in the door,” per the report.

“Willis at this time drove off while my upper body was inside the vehicle almost striking me,” the report went on.

Instead of driving off from the officer who somehow avoided injury, Wills stopped in front of her apartment and fled inside of the residence. She came back out and was ordered onto the ground, but continued to resist and ran back into her apartment. The arrival of other officers gave police the chance to finally get Wills under control and into cuffs.

She remains in custody on multiple charges including escape, simple battery against a police officer/law enforcement dog/corrections or detention officer, failure to obey traffic control device, mirror requirements, improper parking, simple assault, failure to dim headlights, tag lights required, headlight requirements, tire requirements, possession of methamphetamine, driving while license suspended or revoked, marijuana possession, possession and use of drug-related objects, reckless driving, aggravated assault, failure to yield for authorized emergency vehicle, fleeing/attempting to elude police, reckless conduct, nine counts of obstruction of law enforcement officers, and three counts of interference with government property.

Bond had not yet been set on the charges for the latest incident.

Wills was arrested in August 2023 on a DUI and other charges after she was stopped by Polk County Police at Lime Branch Baptist Church in the same Chevy Equinox while claiming she was “taking pictures of an SUV that looked like her friends.”
