Woman released after Rockmart PD investigation finds she falsified assault report

Kandis Wynette Guice

A Rockmart woman was charged last week and released after several days in jail after being charged in a domestic incident.

Kandis Wynette Guice, 54, of a Rockmart address, was booked into custody on December 10 and was released after a week in custody and was taken to an area treatment facility following an incident earlier this month.

Per the report, Guice told Rockmart Police she couldn’t remember how she was injured on December 4, and later evidence and interviews showed that a suspect she was blaming for abuse was in fact innocent.

Guice was taken to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center for treatment of the injuries to her face, and then was interviewed by investigators at the Rockmart Police Department after evidence showed the suspect she named was not responsible.

Police during the search of the residence initially reported finding empty pill bottles and Guice could not explain where the medication was for her neck and back pain. She also could not provide officers with any security camera footage from around the home.

An individual involved in the case and was found to ultimately to be the victim did provide footage to police.

Based on the interviews and evidence compiled over six days following the initial report of the incident, Guice was charged with felonies for aggravated assault, false imprisonment, false statements, and misdemeanors for false report of a crime and misuse of 911.

Guice was booked in the Polk County Jail until her release following arrest on December 10.
