A woman died as a result of injuries after she was struck by another vehicle early this morning in Cedartown, according to officials.

The Polk County Coroner’s Office reported that a fatal accident occurred this morning on West John Hand Road near Woodlawn Drive.

Latoya Spurgeon, 40, of Cedartown, was pronounced dead this morning shortly after 5:45 a.m. at Polk Medical Center’s emergency due to the injuries she sustained when she was struck.

Emergency personnel responded on the scene where they found Spurgeon, who had been struck by a vehicle after she had pulled over for thus far unexplained reasons. Treatment began on the scene and Spurgeon was transported for further care to Polk Medical Center, where she passed away.

Georgia State Patrol is in charge of the investigation.
