Update: Sisters died in wreck on Highway 27 South this afternoon were CHS, CMS students

Update:

The Georgia State Patrol provided additional information tonight about how Gracie and Ava Reed died earlier in an afternoon wreck.

According to information from GSP Public Information officials, Gracie was driving a 2005 Honda Accord with her sister and attempted to turn left from Highway 27 southbound onto Youngs Farm Road. The Honda entered the path of a 2019 Freightliner tractor trailer that was heading northbound, and the two vehicles collided with impact on the right front side of the smaller passenger car.

Both vehicles went off the eastbound side of the roadway, where the Honda flipped and became trapped underneath the tractor trailer.

Gracie, 16, and Ava, 12, died at the scene, per the GSP.

Officials reported that the driver of the tractor trailer received minor injuries and was transported to Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome.

Their investigation was not yet fully complete as of this hour. Check back for any additional details to follow.
